Low Side Brass Float Valve
The low-side flow type of the throttling valve is normally applicable for the flooded types of refrigeration plants.
The brass float valve will maintain the liquid at a constant level. The low-side float valve is located in the low-pressure evaporator. The function and the construction of a low-side float valve are somewhat similar to the float valve used for water tanks.
A low-side float valve is consists of a seat, needle valve, and a float arm. The needle forms and the valve seat creates an opening that delivers a throttling effect to the refrigerant.
The float or the hollow ball floats on the refrigerant inside the evaporator. It moves down and up according to the level of the liquid. It is connected to the valve seat and needle through a float arm.
High Side Brass Float Valve
While the low side float valve is located at an evaporator, the high side brass float valve is positioned at a high-pressure side between the evaporator and condenser.
The refrigerant would condense and evaporates if the load increases. Thus, making the liquid level in the float chamber increase.
The high-pressure brass float valve is capable of working up to 16 barg. The lowest water supply pressure it can hold is at least 2 barg.
The water level in a tank can be determined through the arm between the valve and the float.
The arm is adjustable to the level change. For a low water level, you can move the float downwards. You can also raise the float to increase the water level.
You can use these three common methods to adjust the arm and the water level.
- A usual method used for adjusting is just physically bending the solid brass arm between the valve and the float. Grip the arm near the valve using your hand and the other hand to bend it downward or upwards until you achieve the required water level.
- You can also adjust it by using adjustment screws with a lock nut. By releasing the lock nut, you can adjust the screw to change the water level.
- Another brass float valve has a hinge in the middle of the arm. You can adjust it by loosening the lock nut then lower or raise the float using the hinge.
